One of the most promising nutrients being researched for Alzheimer’s disease is Curcumin (from the spice Turmeric).  Alzheimer’s patients accumulate beta-amyloid plaque which destroys brain cells.  Curcumin has been shown to bind to these plaques, slowing their accumulation and even promoting their removal from the brain. In one study using a model of Alzheimer’s disease, Curcumin reduced the size of beta amyloid plaques significantly in just one week.  The problem with conventional Curcumin supplements is that they have very poor absorption: very little gets into the blood stream.  A few companies have found ways to increase Curcumin’s absorption ten fold and even higher. CuraMed Brain is one product that uses a branded Curcumin ingredient which has been shown to have superior absorption.
